TISD Board extends COVID-related paid leave for staff

The Tomball Independent School District Board of Trustees voted unanimously 7-0 Thursday to approve TISD administration’s request to extend paid leave to employees who are required to quarantine due to a COVID-19 diagnosis or close contact with an infected individual.

The vote came during the board’s regular board meeting Tuesday night. The board adopted a resolution extending certain leave benefits provided by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), which expired December 31, 2020.

“I am thankful for the unanimous support from our board during this time of a global pandemic,” Superintendent Dr. Salazar-Zamora said. “They continue to show their support and commitment to the staff of Tomball ISD.”

The board’s action comes as Congress has made no move to reinstate FFCRA. The resolution also gives the superintendent the authority to determine whether and how to allow employees to continue to use the 80 hours of leave originally provided by the FFCRA if Congress modifies or extends the federal act.
