Wildcats fall short to Vandegrift in first 6A playoff game

In the first round of the Conference 6A-D2 playoffs, the varsity football team lost 35-14 to the Vandegrift Vipers on Friday, Nov. 16 in Austin.

The Vipers started the first quarter with a 15-yard rushing touchdown, putting the score at 7-0.

Vandegrift doubled their lead to 14-0 with a 50-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Sophomore Colton Marwill scored the Wildcats’ first points of the night, a 25-yard rushing touchdown, but the Vipers responded with a 10-yard pass completion for a touchdown just before time ran out for a halftime score of 21-7.

In the third quarter, the Vipers’s 45-yard pass completion for a touchdown increased the home side’s lead to 28-7. Marwill threw 19 yards to senior Jordan Grice for a touchdown, cutting Vandegrift’s lead in half to 28-14.

For the last touchdown of the game, the Vipers scored with a 72-yard pass, ending the game at 35-14.
