Running his way into success on and off the field, senior Levi Swang recently got accepted to five out of seven colleges he applied for, and one awarded him a full ride scholarship.
“I was very excited when I found out,” Swang said. “I didn’t really expect it.”
Swang was accepted to Sam Houston University, Oklahoma State University, Texas State University, Trinity University, and The University of the Incarnate Word. Incarnate Word awarded him a full ride athletic scholarship.
“It’s a big deal for him,” senior Kyle Chinn said. “He’s the first athlete at our school to get a full ride anywhere.”
During spring training in 2015, coach Ivicic from The University of the Incarnate Word came and visited and talked to him. Ivicic then visited Swang’s family to announce that he had been awarded the scholarship.
“It was a huge surprise when he told me,” Swang said. “Me and my family were both excited.”
Swang plans on going to University of Incarnate Word for five years to play offensive and defensive line on the football team and to major in marketing.
“I’ve always enjoyed working with people,” Swang said. “Also being able to sell things to people is something I enjoy doing.”
By setting his eyes on the prize, Swang was able to earn this great achievement and show that with enough work you can reach goals that may seem impossible.
“Everything paid off in the end,” Swang said. “All of the hard work, and the pressure really made this possible, and I couldn’t be happier.”
