Hallo guten Tag! On January 23, students Dylan White and Sofia Robayo were awarded a three-week immersion study trip to Germany this summer. As we all know, the Wildcats are known for their excelling students and programs. This is yet another example of what the Wildcats are able to do. What is even more impressive is that only two students have acquired this award in the whole state of Texas.
The contest is sponsored by the oldest choir in Houston, called the Houston Saengerbund, and is offered to students all over the country by the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG). Students are required to submit an application that consists of a 200-250 word letter in German and is later sent to the Houston Saengerbund. Dylan and Sofia, along with thousands of other students, are interviewed for a final decision.
According to Dylan and Sofia, the interview was held in German where they were asked to discuss complex topics such as the similarities and differences between the American school system and the German school system. Surely enough, Dylan and Sofia impressed the judges and were awarded the trip.
“I am super excited about this trip and cannot wait for the opportunities that this experience will bring me.” Dylan White said.
In Germany, both students will be staying with a host German family for three weeks. Dylan and Sofia will be attending high school and travel with the group on excursions to see tourist sites in the area. Through this program, our Wildcats will not only be able to experience German culture face to face, but they will also be able to further develop their German language skills.
“Germany, for me, will be an opportunity to learn as much about the culture, the people, and the food as possible. ” Sofia Robayo said.
We are extremely proud of Dylan and Sofia for their huge accomplishments. We wish them the best and safe travels.
